The **Austin Developer Event** was a free, full-day developer workshop hosted by [RDX Works](https://www.radixdlt.com/blog/austin-developer-event-consensus-2022) in Austin, Texas on **11 June 2022**, timed to fall inside [Consensus 2022](https://www.coindesk.com/consensus2022) (9–12 June, Austin) so that developers already in the city for the CoinDesk festival could attend. RDX Works' own events page, [archived the day before](https://web.archive.org/web/20220610223705/https://www.radixdlt.com/events), listed it as the "DeFi & Scrypto Event Austin" at **800 Congress** and advertised both the workshop and the evening party as free to attend. The day introduced attendees to [Scrypto](/contents/tech/core-protocols/scrypto-programming-language) and Radix's [asset-oriented](/contents/tech/core-concepts/asset-oriented-programming) approach to smart contracts through hands-on coding, with participants finishing having built NFTs and a simple decentralized exchange. It followed the format set two months earlier by the [Scrypto Developer Event](/contents/history/scrypto-developer-event) in Lisbon, and belongs to the broader run of in-person developer sessions documented in the [History of Radix](/contents/history).

## Programme

The [published schedule](https://www.radixdlt.com/blog/austin-developer-event-consensus-2022) ran from 09:00 to 19:00 and put three coding sessions between two blocks of talk:

The three workshops are the Scrypto teaching sequence of the period, and the same one the Lisbon event had used: the Gumball Machine as the canonical first [blueprint](/contents/tech/core-concepts/blueprints-and-packages), then a badge-and-NFT exercise, then a two-token exchange. All of it ran against Scrypto in [alpha](/contents/tech/core-protocols/scrypto-programming-language) – more than a year before the language reached production with the [Babylon mainnet](/contents/tech/releases/radix-mainnet-babylon) in September 2023 – so attendees were building against a local simulator rather than a live network.

## Reach beyond the room

The event was live-streamed and recorded, and the blog post was explicit that registration was required only to attend in person: watching the stream needed nothing. The full recording remains public as ["Scrypto Developer Event – Austin, Texas"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8UOBs6vOUwA) on the Radix DLT YouTube channel, published on 16 June 2022 and running 3 hours 47 minutes. Attendees were pointed at the developer hub at developers.radixdlt.com – since consolidated into [docs.radixdlt.com](https://docs.radixdlt.com/) – and at the `#scrypto` Discord channel and the [Radix Developers](https://t.me/RadixDevelopers) Telegram group for follow-up, both of which outlasted the event.

Austin was the second and last of the 2022 conference-adjacent developer days. Radix's in-person developer outreach resumed in a different shape two years later with the university-hosted [DApp In A Day](/contents/history/dapp-in-a-day-workshop-1) series, which kept the single-day format but moved it from crypto-conference fringe events to computer science departments.
