## Overview

The Radix Accountability Council (RAC) is a five-member community-elected body formed in February 2026 to facilitate the transition from the [Radix Foundation](/ecosystem/radix-foundation) to a fully community-led governance model. The RAC was proposed as part of the [Radix 2026 Strategy](https://www.radixdlt.com/blog/2026-strategy-the-next-chapter-of-radix), which outlines an orderly handover of Foundation functions to community entities and commercial operators.

The formation consultation ran from [January 30 to February 6, 2026](https://www.radixdlt.com/blog/consultation-results-radix-accountability-council), with over 1.34 billion XRD participating from 1,151 unique accounts — one of the highest-participation governance events in Radix history.

## Elected Members

The council size was determined by approval voting, with the 5-member option winning with 56.91% of XRD (740.7M XRD). Members were elected by XRD-weighted vote:

1. $1
2. $1
3. $1
4. $1
5. $1
The top three members achieved exceptionally high consensus (80%+), indicating broad community alignment. The race for 5th place was close — 769.9M vs 768.2M XRD — confirming a genuinely competitive election.

## Responsibilities

The RAC serves three primary functions during the 2026 transition period:

- **Operational Framework:** Establish the governance and administrative framework for community entities to take over Foundation functions.
- **Administrative Coordination:** Coordinate the handover of critical services — including the Babylon Gateway, Signalling Server, and Connect Relay — to community and commercial operators via the [RFP (Request for Proposal) process](https://www.radixdlt.com/blog).
- **Foundation Interface:** Act as the primary interface between the community and the Radix Foundation during the transition, ensuring accountability and continuity.
The RAC also oversees the wind-down of the [Validator Subsidy](/ecosystem/validator-subsidy-sunset), with administration transferring from the Foundation to community entities in April 2026.
