## Overview

**Dan Hughes** (1974–2025) was the founder and chief architect of [Radix DLT](/contents/history/history-of-radix). Beginning in 2013, Hughes dedicated over a decade to solving the fundamental scalability challenges of distributed ledger technology.

His key technical contributions include:

  - The [Cerberus consensus protocol](/contents/tech/core-protocols/cerberus-consensus-protocol) — braided cross-shard [BFT](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Byzantine_fault) consensus
